About the Event
VOCA is excited to host its 3rd annual Creative Arts Summer Camp (CASC) in partnership with Gallaudet University’s Heritage Sign Languages Center - National Deaf People of Color Conference from July 10th to 21st, 2023. CASC focuses on nurturing and fostering the creative art skills of BIPOC Deaf, hard of hearing, and CODA youths from 5th to 12th grade. There are no organizations other than VOCA in D.C. that provide arts programming by and for this population. Therefore, VOCA offers a comprehensive creative arts summer camp program for the youth and is taught by BIPOC Deaf and hard of hearing artists. The program includes an array of creative arts classes such as acting, visual arts, film, dance, ASL storytelling, photography/film/editing, and DJing. Campers will also participate in athletic team building activities, travel to the Kennedy Center for a tour and play screening and DC museums, swimming pool fun, and many more.
The camp will take place on Gallaudet campus, 800 Florida Ave., NE, Washington, DC 20002 for two weeks, from July 10th to July 21st, 2023. The camp classes are scheduled for Monday thru Friday, starting at 9:00 am and ending at 3:00 pm. Each class is about 50 minutes long, with a 30-minute lunch break. The cost of the camp is $500 for two weeks; $250 per week-session. VOCA accepts school payments via purchase order. Scholarships are available upon request. Dormitory and meal plans are covered for out of state students.
