Congratulations to Alexandria Wailes on her Helen Hayes Award Win!

Dear Friends and Supporters of VOCA,

We are over the moon with how VOCA’s first year of Helen Hayes Awards turned out! As you know, we had received SIX NOMINATIONS, and of those six, the award for Outstanding Director of a Musical was granted to Alexandria Wailes! What an amazing achievement!

We are beyond ecstatic at how the night turned out! As previously stated last week, this recognition is not only an acknowledgment of artistic excellence but also a celebration of what becomes possible when Deaf, DeafBlind, Deaf+, HoH, and BIPOC artists are given the space, resources, and support to thrive. Seeing Alexandria accept her award fills us all with pride.

The other five nominations still very much reflect the extraordinary artists, collaborators, audiences, and supporters who have helped build VOCA into a home for bold, resonant, groundbreaking theater. Even though they did not win that evening, we can not be anything but grateful for the service and talent they provided to get us this far! So thank you for being the heart of what VOCA is all about.

As a reminder, we have recently launched: FOR THE ARTISTS — A Fundraising Campaign for VOCA. Over the course of this summer campaign, we are inviting our community to help sustain and expand this momentum. Your support directly helps VOCA continue creating opportunities for Deaf and BIPOC artists, producing innovative new work, and building a cohesive artistic future.
